Rocky
Mountain Animal Defense renamed
Rocky Mountain Justice for Animals
Organization refines focus to emphasize
litigation and policy in defense of animals
DENVER, Colo., May 3, 2010 -- The
Board of Directors of Rocky Mountain Animal Defense, a Colorado tax-exempt
organization, that has defended animals against cruelty since 1994, has renamed
the organization "Rocky Mountain Justice for Animals," to reflect the
organization's increased emphasis on litigation and policy research and
advocacy.
With the name change, the
Board of Directors has also elected Karen Breslin to serve as a board member and
executive director. Breslin is a Denver animal rights attorney who has assisted
Rocky Mountain Animal Defense in its efforts to halt the use of leghold traps to
capture coyotes in Greenwood Village. Breslin is also lead counsel in
litigation challenging Denver's ban on dogs deemed by the city to be "pit
bulls." That case is presently pending in U.S. District Court in Denver.
"It is an honor to be
associated with an organization like Rocky Mountain Animal Defense," said
Breslin. "This is an organization that has a proud and important legacy of
challenging and halting brutality against animals. That legacy is a result of
the dedication of founder and former executive director David Crawford and other
RMAD directors, board members, and the many dedicated volunteers. We intend to
uphold that tradition and carry on the fight to defend the interests of animals
in the courtroom and in the court of public opinion."
Justice for Animals
welcomes the opportunity to work with other dedicated organizations and
individuals in fighting cruelty against companion animals, "farm" animals,
animals tortured for commerce or science, animals used and abused for
entertainment, and wildlife targeted for destruction or harassment.
