Thank you to everyone who has so far made a contribution to RMAD. We’re not out of the water yet, but the support has been refreshing, and RMAD staff and board feel empowered enough to proceed with our vision of a more streamlined and clarified RMAD.

The biggest change to come out of all this is a strategic geographic move. As of November 1, we will be relocating the RMAD office to Denver. While we’ll still be active in Boulder, we feel that there is an invigorated and largely untapped community to help us not only grow, but once again thrive as Colorado’s animal rights organization. We’re very excited about this, as are many of the Denver volunteers and activists who have been working tirelessly in the Big City.

Still, our plea remains the same. We’re asking that you support RMAD in this financially and politically difficult time. If you haven’t yet read our letter below, and have not yet made a contribution to RMAD, please do so today, and please forward this on to as many friends, family members and organizations as you can.

Dear Friends of Rocky Mountain Animal Defense:

As we head toward the end of 2007, we celebrate RMAD’s 14 th year of advocacy on behalf of animals Together we have built an organization dedicated to fighting for animals through our core program areas: public service, education and outreach, litigation and legislation, and direct actionwork that is absolutely necessary because animals continue to face countless forms of suffering every day.

RMAD is proud to share this life-changing work with you.

Small, community-led, animal advocacy organizations continue to face financial challenges as we compete for funding from foundations and grantors that are inundated with requests for money. Our unapologetic mission of “eliminating the human-imposed suffering of animals” is often viewed as strident, making us appear too risky for many foundations to take a chance on.

This, along with the emergence of hundreds of new non-profits asking for funds in Colorado alone, has been the bleak picture for a few years, and we’re feeling the effects. Foundation awards have fallen flat, forcing us to make difficult decisions about our budget in 2007. For the first time in 14 years, RMAD’s survival is threatened.

Meanwhile, the work of struggling for justice for animals remains as essential as always. We turn to you, the community that has stood in solidarity with us over the years, to ensure that RMAD’s work continues. An animal rights advocacy community does not have to be convinced that the work is worth doing—you know that it is. Operating on a very lean budget for over 14 years, RMAD has worked hard for our vision of a world where animals and the environment are no longer exploited for profit and convenience.

Our vision for the future is stronger than ever. We have exciting ideas about new directions for RMAD, and with your support we can get there.

You can help in two important ways: make a generous gift to RMAD and become a monthly donor. If you’re already a monthly donor, please consider increasing your giving level. If you have any questions about making a donation, feel free to contact us by e-mail or telephone.

“Animal liberation will require greater altruism on the part of human beings than any other liberation movement. The animals themselves are incapable of demanding their own liberation, or of protesting against their condition with votes, demonstrations or boycotts.”

– Peter Singer, Animal Liberation

For the animals,

RMAD Staff and Board of Directors
