Wow ... September. No doubt that many of you, like us, are glad to say goodbye to a brutally hot summer. And with the transition to the school year comes a flurry of requests for help, so the RMAD staff has been working furiously as we assist the public with an array of situations. Some of them are quick and painless victories; others are complex and emotional, but all of them require our undivided attention.
On top of all this, RMAD staff is working on a desk load of projects. Many of them are entering their final stages, and we’ll be sure to inform you of the results.
The dedicated activists bringing attention to Shea Homes’ continuing assault on wildlife are hosting a protest again this weekend in Highlands Ranch. It will take place Saturday September 8 from 4–7 p.m. at the corner of Wildcat Reserve Parkway and South Broadway. The protest will coincide with Shea’s “BackCountry's Priority List Private Sneak Peek Celebration.” If you have any questions, please contact Pam (303-517-5011) or Leslie.
Big news! Denver Veg Fest is off and running. The unstoppable Dan Hanley is leading this April 2008 event. This not-for-profit event will feature food, fun, speakers, vendors, education, nonprofits, a children's area and more. Veg Fest is being sponsored by Arsenal Pulp Press, Colorado Anti-Violence Project, Cruelty-Free World, RMAD, Three Little Figs Market, Vegetarian Resource Group and WaterCourse Foods. Speakers confirmed so far include Bruce Friedrich (vice president, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), Dan Landes (owner, WaterCourse Foods), Pattrice Jones (author and speaker), Sarah Kramer (bestselling vegan cookbook author) and Nathan Rumke (president and founder of Mercy for Animals).
We’ll be sure to keep you informed of details as they arrive, but in the meantime, check out the HEALTH Veg Fest Fundraiser taking place on October 7 in the form of a “Baked Potato Bonanza Fundraiser.” Dinner will be a potato bar with all the toppings. Of course, it will be all vegan and all you can eat. Lots more details in the RMAD Calendar.
As always, thanks for all you’re doing out there, and be sure to let us know if you have any questions or comments.
