Coyotes Need Our Help!

As you probably have read here and heard about elsewhere, coyotes in Denver are literally under fire.
Dr. Nicole Rosmarino of WildEarth Guardians (and formerly of RMAD) has taken the lead on helping resolve coyote conflicts. The latest is in Greenwood Village, where the city council is paying for someone to shoot coyotes on city open space.
You can help! Contact Nicole if you can be a volunteer monitor: 303-573-4898, x642 or by e-mail at nrosmarino@wildearthguardians.org.
You will be looking for coyotes to haze, trying to save their lives by increasing their aversion to humans. Stay tuned for other actions you can take. It might be coming to a city council meeting, writing a letter, or doing outreach by knocking on doors in Greenwood Village.
In addition, the city of Denver is looking for volunteers to haze coyotes (!!) in Bible Park, southeast Denver. Click here: Coyote Hazing

Here’s a thoughtful missive from one of the folks who regularly participates in the fur demo:
I try to go to the fur demos whenever I get the chance and I always have a great time - it's something I can count on to have fun. I would like to let the fur store owners realize that there are more than just a few people in Denver who abhor the fur industry. I want them to know that there are plenty of people who are willing to stand up for what they believe in.
These fur store owners are getting away with torturing animals and we are the only voice those animals have. It's not right what happens to the animals and it is equally wrong to ignore it and let it happen. If I was in a place where I was being tortured and no one listened to my screams yet many people knew exactly what was going on, I'd like to think that there would be more than just a few people trying to help me.
We have a choice - we can sit comfortably, ignoring the suffering of the innocent, or we can stand up, do the right thing by educating those around us. And as for those who are in opposition to us, who refuse knowledge and compassion - we can show them that although they may bully the weak, they cannot bully us because we stand strong - we do have a voice and we will use it!
I have always felt like my voice was tiny, but I use it anyway because my tiny voice is louder than those animals' agonizing cries for help. And when I am joined by others who stand with me, I noticed that my voice becomes louder. I am not always sure I am doing the right thing in life, but standing out there, just holding signs and smiling and handing out leaflets - it feels damn good. And I don't feel so tiny anymore. Want to join me? – Anna H

A few blurbs about your health
From our fearless leader, RMAD Board President Ryan Andrews, Director of Education for Precision Nutrition:
Did your lunch contribute to heart failure?
Food choices can help and hurt coronary artery disease, obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Whole grains (oats, brown rice, sprouted grain breads, corn, quinoa, buckwheat, etc.) can help. Eggs and high fat dairy can hurt. Keep in mind that the researchers used food frequency questionnaires to assess the food intake of the study participants. Food frequency questionnaires can be about as reliable as a 4 year old helping you move a futon. Ummm, in other words, not very.
What’s in that Big-Gulp, green tea?
The beverage consumption habits of nearly 30,000 people were analyzed over a period of 10 years. Sounds fun, I know. The latest findings reveal that we have about 5% more adult sugar-sweetened beverage drinkers, and daily consumption increased by about 6 ounces. Young adults had the highest overall consumption. The elderly had the lowest. In other breaking news – the sun came up this morning. Remember, the healthiest beverage options are water, tea and water flavored with lemon/lime. Knock yourself out.
