=======================================

YES WE CAN!

With the new president there’s an unmistakable feeling of hope in the country. We CAN help animals!

Pet Spot in Longmont is NOW CLOSED!!! YES WE CAN!!!

This miserable puppy mill store became the focus of two committed activists, Shelley Fox and Jackie Raynes. After nearly a year of persistent demonstrations, 34 counts of animal cruelty against the owner, and media attention, Pet Spot is NOW CLOSED!!!

RMAD’s WatchDog program was launched to help dogs, puppies and activists like Jackie and Shelley. See our new web page at www.RMAD.org.

YES YOU CAN help animals! Here’s a list of volunteer opportunities:

Tabling season is upon us! Help with the RMAD public outreach program. Our first opportunity is to have a table at an inauguration party THIS TUES at the Boulder Theater! We need a few volunteers starting for a few hours that evening. Be a part of this historic event and help animals at the same time. Call Tori, 303-549-2243 or email: toriesr@RMAD.org.

Help with Animal Lobbying Day. The big day is Thurs, Feb 12th. We already have over a HUNDRED  citizens signed up to talk to their legislators at the state capitol. We need MANY volunteers to help make this the best day possible. Everything from organizing snacks to being a Runner at the capitol, there’s something for you to help with. AND you’ll have time to talk to your own legislators that day as well. Details on the day are below; can you help? Call the office to find out more about the variety of volunteer jobs, 303-449-4422 or email: mikes@rmad.org.

Become a WatchDog Investigator. As you may have read about, the RMAD WatchDog program is designed to help people help dogs and puppies. One area that needs serious attention is some analysis of  the stack of files from PACFA (the state agency responsible for dog protection). RMAD has the files; we need folks with a forensic bent, reading the details and finding the problems. From the few files that have already been reviewed, there are some real issues to be addressed. Call the office to find out more, 303-449-4422 or email: mikes@rmad.org.

Other volunteer opportunities: I could use a bit of administrative help in the Boulder office (bookkeeping, etc). Other jobs that have been suggested include planning an activity for International Day to Abolish Meat on Jan 31, helping with outreach/tabling, getting RMAD switched to a better email newsletter software, planning an RMAD coffee house and finding businesses for RMAD Days, where they donate a % of that day’s profit. These would all help RMAD help animals; let me know if any of these really get you going. Call the office to find out more: 303-449-4422 or email: mikes@rmad.org. If you’ve been in touch already, please reconnect; things have been hectic!

This Sat! Join other Dog Activists

North Washington St Kennels Protest
Saturday, January 17th, 12 to 3
7174 N. Washington St, Denver

Bring a sign (there will be a few extras). NO DOGS ALLOWED, this is a very busy street. Dress warmly, it may be cold. Parking just north of the overpass should be ok. There is a strip mall there, which includes a pub just in case anyone gets cold.

This demo is led by the same folks that closed down Pet Spot in Longmont. This is a peaceful protest, no shouting etc.  For questions, carpooling, etc: Jackie, jjravsfan@yahoo.com.

Next Sat! Join still MORE Dog Activists

The Pedigree Shop Protest
Saturday, January 31st, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., weather permitting

We will stand on the corner of Chester and County Line on the public sidewalk outside Park Meadows Mall. No dogs at this time as we are standing close to a busy road. Literature and signs always provided.

This demo is led by the same folks that closed down Julie’s Pet “Paradise” in Castle Rock. This is a peaceful protest, no shouting etc. You will be provided with "OJT" (on the job training) and whatever support needed.

Please RSVP in advance and/or send questions, carpooling, etc:  Julie, Julie@sarff.com.

Let's make PUPPY MILLS a thing of the PAST and have ADOPTION as the ONLY option.

Colorado Humane Lobby Day, Feb

Think only professional lobbyists can lobby? Think again! You are invited to participate in the Colorado Humane Lobby Day in Denver to make a tremendous difference for animals. RMAD strongly supports this event, being led by the Humane Society of the US. Can you help organize this event? It’s more than a listserv. You’ll get occasional emails AND you’ll have access to all kinds of info. For instance, read the draft of the anti-puppy mill bill being introduced in the Colorado Legislature.

Keep in the loop on everyone’s efforts to protect dogs and puppies. Click here to get on the RMAD WatchDog Yahoo email list to start connecting; to find us, type “RMAD WatchDogs” in the Search feature.

Helping Homeless Dogs

The afternoon of Jan 10 saw many animal activists take to the streets of Denver, loaded with dog food and on the lookout for folks with dogs who needed food. Led by intrepid RMAD Board member Lynee’ Zajack Beck, we learned that sometimes it’s easy to find dogs in need, sometimes not so much. We handed out several gallon bags of food and have more to give.

Stay tuned. Lynee’ is working on a best next step for the RMAD Pets of the Homeless project. Thanks to all that have so energetically responded with time and donations!

It’s almost here!

Mon, Feb 9th is RMAD Day at Watercourse Restaurant, Denver. RMAD’s Dining Out Day at WaterCourse is a great way to eat wonderful food and support RMAD at the same time.

Plan to eat breakfast at WaterCourse on Feb 9th. And lunch. And dinner! They’re at 837 E 17th Ave, not far from downtown.

ALSO on the 9th, Ahimsa Footwear will donate a portion of sales to RMAD. Featuring animal-friendly shoes and more, they’re right down the street from WaterCourse at 1668 Marion St. So eat, buy some shoes, eat again, buy more shoes…

Do you have a favorite business that wants to support RMAD? Let Mike Stabler know at 303-449-4422 or mikes@rmad.org.
