Animals as Food

Vegetarianism
Each year in the United States alone some 27 billion animals are killed for the taste of their flesh. That's over 2 million every hour. And that figure doesn't include those who are killed because ranchers say they pose a threat to livestock. Countless animals—including coyotes, prairie dogs, mountain lions, and wild horses—are killed every year to "protect' ranchers' interests. Nor does the 10 billion killed include animals who are killed when they lose their homes to the massive destruction of forests, grasslands, and water systems that results from livestock grazing.

Further, the consumption of meat is conclusively linked with the three greatest killers in this country - cancer, heart disease, and stroke. Adopting a vegetarian diet is good for you, good for the animals, and good for the earth. (See also RMAD's HEALTH Program.)

"Raw Footage, Raw Pain"
RMAD's first campaign was to expose conditions inside a local factory egg farm with videotape shot by our co-founder, David Crawford. The tape was edited into a groundbreaking 12-minute film that documents the factory's violations of Colorado state anti-cruelty laws and details the inherent cruelty of intensive egg production. "Raw Footage, Raw Pain" has aired on cable stations across the United States.
